Lets Demystify Hypnosis

Hypnosis – What is it really? & Lets remove the misconceptions and myths that surround the word hypnosis.

Firstly we might start with a small history lesson. I think it is good for you to understand that hypnosis is far from a modern concept.

The roots of hypnosis & trance like states date back as far as the ancient Egyptians and Chinese. The premise of hypnosis can be found in the ancient texts. Back in those days it fell into the realm of being a type of magic and an ascension of the gods.

It was in the late 18th Century that a Viennese physician brought trance into the modern era, as people grew more aware with a better understanding of altered states of being.

In the mid 19th Century a Scottish surgeon coined the term hypnosis. Initially the surgeon was fixated on the idea od a person being mesmerized and tried to debunk the idea as a hoax or some sort of delusion. As this Scottish surgeon, James Braid studied further he found himself more & more fascinates with eh idea of trance and started experimenting on himself….. And so it begun!

Trance is a relaxed state whereby the mind experiences heighted awareness without the distraction of the peripheral world or that of the inner world.

The idea that hypnosis is nothing more than a state of sleep is a big misconception, even in todays modern world. Another misconception is the idea that hypnosis is a form of brainwashing & or mind control. The idea that people do not remember what occurs whilst being hypnotized, or that somehow they surrender their power to the hypnotist whereby they are forced to engage in behaviours that are contrary to their own personal morals or ethics. Lots of misconceptions are polarised in the movies & on TV, with great myths being depicted and told.

The hypnotist cannot force you to do anything you don’t want to do.

Some examples of you being in a state of trance and you not realising it are:

  • Have you ever tried talking to someone who is watching TV, and found it hard to get their attention?
  • Have you ever been driving down the road, you reach your destination and wonder how you got there?

These examples are what is called, naturally occurring states of trance.

Hypnosis is a trusted and valued discipline of the healing arts, social sciences and human services, with unlimited applications in self improvement, not only in your personal life but also your professional life.

The success of hypnosis, is in the entering of the doorway to the subconscious mind. The subconscious mind not only manages all you bodies sensations and functions, but holds all the information outside of your consciousness. Your subconscious mind can communicate to every cell within your body. Hypnosis allows us to reach the subconscious mind, utilizing the Mind/Body connection. This is the beginning of implementing the changes in your life that you desire.

Hypnosis is an effective means of accomplishing your goals, by using the power of your own mind.
